Online Pledge to mark No Tobacco Day held at Modi College
The NCC, NSS and BSG Departments of Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala today organized an On-line pledge to mark ‘No Tobacco Day’. This event was based on the theme of this year, ‘protecting youth from industry manipulation and preventing them from tobacco and nicotine use’. It was organized to bring awareness among students and public about risks and vulnerabilities associated with use of tobacco in light of the new studies of World health organization about linkage between smoking and Covid-19.
College principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar while addressing the students said that more that 8 million people die as a result of tobacco use every year. This year World health Organization has launched ‘Commit to Quit’ campaign which will help create healthier environments that are conducive to quitting smoking and use of tobacco. Dr. Rajeev Sharma and Dr. Harmohan Sharma, Programme Officers NSS motivated the students to participate in this campaign and told that the Covid-19 pandemic has led to millions of tobacco users saying they want to quit. This pledge is part of supporting this worldwide campaigning of ‘Quit and Win’. Dr. Rohit Schdeva and Dr. Nidhi Gupta, Incharge of NCC wings of the college motivated the students to participate in this campaign in large numbers.
In this event 118 students and all staff members participated. The pledge was presented in English by NCC under Officer Mr. Bakashdeep Singh and in Hindi language by Mr. Adhiraj, NSS volunteer of the college.
More than 500 students took the pledge by filling the Google form. The event was technically managed by Dr. Rohit Schdeva.

ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਤੰਬਾਕੂ ਦਿਵਸ ਦੇ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਚੁਕਾਈ ਗਈ ਆਨਲਾਈਨ ਸੁੰਹ
ਸਥਾਨਿਕ ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮੱਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਐੱਨ.ਸੀ.ਸੀ, ਐੱਨ.ਐੱਸ.ਐੱਸ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਸਕਾਉਟ੍ਸ ਏੰਡ ਗਾਈਡ੍ਸ (ਬੀ ਐਸ ਜੀ) ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਅੱਜ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਤੰਬਾਕੂ ਦਿਵਸ ਦੇ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੰਬਾਕੂ ਦੇ ਦੁਰਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦੇਣ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਰੋਕਥਾਮ ਲਈ ਸੁੰਹ ਚੁਕਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਸਿਹਤ ਸੰਸਥਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਇਸ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਦੇ ਥੀਮ ‘ਨੌਜਵਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਨਅਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਦੂਸ਼ਣਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਤੰਬਾਕੂ ਤੇ ਨਿਕੋਟੀਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਉਣਾ’ ਤੇ ਆਧਾਰਿਤ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਆਮ ਜਨਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਤੰਬਾਕੂ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਕੋਵਿਡ-19 ਮਹਾਂਮਾਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧ ਹੋਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਸਿਹਤ ਸੰਸਥਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਨਵੀਆਂ ਰਿਪੋਰਟਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੰਭੀਰਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਜਾਣੂ ਕਰਵਾਉਣਾ ਸੀ।
ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਖੁਸ਼ਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਬੋਧਿਤ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਰ ਸਾਲ ਤੰਬਾਕੂ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕਾਰਣ ਅੱਠ ਮਿਲੀਅਨ ਲੋਕ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਮੁੰਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਸਾਲ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਸਿਹਤ ਸੰਸਥਾ ਨੇ‘ਕਮਿੱਟ ਟੂੰ ਕੁਇੱਟ’ ਨਾਮੀ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਚਲਾਈ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਤੰਬਾਕੂ ਤੇ ਸਿਗਰਟ ਛੱਡਣ ਲਈ ਢੁੱਕਵਾਂ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਤੇ ਲੋਂੜੀਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਤਜਵੀਜ਼ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਐੱਨ.ਐੱਸ.ਐੱਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕੀ ਅਫਸਰ ਡਾ. ਰਾਜੀਵ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਡਾ. ਹਰਮੋਹਣ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਕੋਵਿਡ-19 ਦੀ ਮਹਾਂਮਾਰੀ ਕਾਰਣ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਪੱਧਰ ਤੇ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਲੋਕ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਸਿਗਰਟ ਜਾਂ ਤੰਬਾਕੂ ਉਤਪਾਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਦੀ ਸਨ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖਹਿੜਾ ਛਡਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਸੁੰਹ ਰਾਹੀ ‘ਕੁਇੱਟ ਐੱਡ ਵਿੰਨ’ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਦਾ ਸਮਰਥਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ।ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਐੱਨ.ਸੀ.ਸੀ ਵਿੰਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਇੰਚਾਰਜਾਂ ਡਾ. ਰੋਹਿਤ ਸਚਦੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਡਾ. ਨਿੱਧੀ ਗੁਪਤਾ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੁੰ ਇਸ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਬਣਨ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਇਸ ਸੁੰਹ ਚੁੱਕਣ ਦੀ ਆਨਲਾਈਨ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਵਿੱਚ 118 ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਟਾਫ ਨੇ ਭਾਗ ਲਿਆ।ਰਸਮੀ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਸੁੰਹ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਐੱਨ.ਸੀ.ਸੀ. ਅੰਡਰ ਅਫਸਰ ਬਕਸ਼ਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਤੇ ਹਿੰਦੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਐੱਨ.ਐੱਸ.ਐੱਸ ਵਲੰਟੀਅਰ ਅਧਿਰਾਜ ਨੇ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ।ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦਾ ਤਕਨੀਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਨ ਡਾ. ਰੋਹਿਤ ਸਚਦੇਵਾ ਨੇ ਨਿਭਾਇਆ।ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ 500 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਗੂਗਲ ਫਾਰਮ ਰਾਹੀ ਵੀ ਸੁੰਹ ਚੁੱਕੀ।
